Main Article Content
Abstract
Subaltern Studies is a fertile area for research. The term ‘Subaltern’ was coined by Antonio Gramsci, an Italian- Marxist intellectual. The term refers to the severely underprivileged sections of the society at global level. There are millions of subalterns living their life in appalling conditions, worldwide. In the Indian context, Tribals, Dalits, the transgender people and some sections of women constitute the subaltern. Quite a few creative writers have dealt with subaltern issues in their writings. Mulkraj Anand, Mahasweta Devi, Arundati Roy, AravindAdiga and many others have focused on the subaltern-plight. AravindAdiga’s works like The White Tiger and Between theAssassinations are marked by stark realism and an angry, satirical vein. This article attempts a study of the portrayal of subaltern issues in Adiga’sBetween the Assassinations.
