Abstract

This research deals with the subject of "Mu'talif" and "Mukhtalif", which literally means same and different. "Mu'talif" and "Mukhtalif" is one of the branches of the science of Hadith, i.e., the Prophetic tradition.  It studies the names of Hadith's narrators which may look similar in script but may differ in pronunciation due to the number and position of dots associated with consonant letters. It studies several aspects of this area: the concept, its importance, and the approach used to deal with it, the first scholar to write on the subject, and other scholars who have written on the matter. The researcher also explains the difference between this branch of Hadith and other branches that are similar to it and describes its different types with representing examples. In addition, an attempt is made to clarify its types and indicate its importance illustrating the scientific issues related to it. This is done to enable researchers to understand it and distinguish it from other sciences and to show the consequences of ignoring it or not giving it due care which may cause researchers to make erroneous inferences.
