Abstract

Breastfeeding for newborns is one of the efforts to prevent infant mortality and malnutrition problems in infants and toddlers. Based on the 2013 research by the WHO (World Health Organization), in six developing countries the risk of infant mortality between the ages of 9-12 months increased by 40% if the baby was not breastfed. This research is library research using the thematic interpretation method and makes the Qur'an and its translation as the primary source and complements it with secondary sources taken from commentaries, hadith books, and scientific books that have relevance to the discussion. In the Qur'an Allah has confirmed the continuity of this breastfeeding for two full years. This two-year period is a golden period in terms of health and mental health for babies, which is contained in QS Al-Baqarah [2]: 233. Breastfeeding plays a very important role in fulfilling infant nutrition, so that it can increase the baby's immunity. Breastfeeding can prevent 1/3 of the incidence of acute respiratory infections (ARI), the incidence of diarrhea can decrease by 50% and severe bowel disease in premature babies can reduce the incidence by as much as 58%, while the risk of breast cancer in mothers can also decrease by 6-10%.
