Social Responsibility of the Mass Media and Work Passion Predicting Adversity Quotient of Employees in the Mass Media

Abstract

This research aimed 1) to study ability level to handle adversities (adversity quotient), social responsibility of the media, and work passion of media profession organization employees, 2) to study the relationship between social responsibility of the media and adversity quotient of media profession organization employees, 3) to study the relationship between work passion and adversity quotient of media profession organization employees, and 4) to predict adversity quotient based on social responsibility of the media and work passion of media profession organization employees.The research sample is 362 media profession organization employees.    The research instrument is a questionnaire. Statistics used for data analysis are frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, partial correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The findings from the research revealed that 1) adversity quotient, social responsibility of the media, and work passion of media profession organization employees were at the highest level on average, 2) social responsibility of the media was positively related to adversity quotient of media profession organization employees with the statistical significance level of 0.01, 3) work passion was positively related to adversity quotient of media profession organization employees with the statistical significance level of 0.01, 4) social responsibility of the media in terms of responsibility to media profession, responsibility to strengthen the public, responsibility to be the public media, responsibility to recognize its media’s impact on society, responsibility to journalism ethics, work passion, employee endorsement, job commitment, discretionary effort, and organizational commitment could predict adversity quotient of media profession organization employees by 62.80%.
